2018 VSFS: Elsa Hosk (Flights of Fancy Segment)

2018 VSFS: Elsa Hosk
(Flights of Fancy Segment)

Swedish model Elsa Hosk (the day after her 30th birthday) wears the $1 million dollar Fantasy Bra designed by Atelier Swarovski for the 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She is a former professional basketball player and an advocate in support of the anti-human trafficking organization, FAIR Girls. Apparently, she was so motivated by the movie "Whistleblower" that she was stirred to participatory action. The movie directly tackled the subject of sex and human trafficking.

Interestinly enough, when Victoria's Secret adorned Elsa Hosk with the highest honor of wearing the VS Fantasy Bra specfiically for the final fashion show, given her advocacy, the lingerie brand seemed to also be denouncing the bubbling scandals surrounding the sexual fantasy world as depicted by Victoria's Secret. On the surface, it currently seems as if Victoria's Secrt is just going through some re-branding to keep up with this new modern world of empowered women influenced by the #MeToo Movement and the #TimesUp Movement. But there are several deeper, far-reaching scandals here. After watching the HULU documentary entitled "Victoria's Secret: Angels and Demons," I have become more aware of what the underlying issues are that continue to plague the brand: an intricate underworld of inappropriate sexual conduct victimizing young women and under-aged girls in association with the mega-lingerie brand spearheaded by the billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein, a recently convicted sex offender whos supposedly killed himself while incarcerated. It is so sad that the world of sexual fantasy and retail allure cannot be enjoyed by women and men with the highest level of respect, integrity, and dignity without the interference of those with lower standards and ill intentions. I wish the best for the future of Victoria's Secret. I am hoping that they can bounce back without giving up too much of their original appeal. This world is not where it needs to be as far as appreciating the beauty of women in a healthy way and perhaps never will be. Those of us who fully understand and are intensely bothered by the sexual dysfunction that exists in this world as it relates specifically to young women and developing girls must do our part to push toward a better world and get involved in advocacy in much the way Elsa Hosk has chosen to do.

Do not be a part of the problem. Instead, be a part of the solution!

Adriana Lima Hangs Up Her Wings

Adriana Lima Hangs Up Her Wings

Supermodel Adriana Lima beautifully retired from Victoria's during the 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. At the time that the show aired, I had no idea that Victoria's Secret would stop the annual lingerie runway show altogether as announced in 2019. Perhaps Adriana Lima just had a very strong instinct about the future of Victoria's Secret or perhaps she had some inside information. Either way, she elegantly made a fabulous exit from Victoria's Secret as she retired from the mega-lingerie giant.

No other model in the history of Victoria's Secret has opened and closed more Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows than Adriana Lima. For 19 consecutive years she has been the most admired model in the famous brand's annual show not just because of her Brazilian goddess physical beauty, but because of her personality that just seems to reach out to her fans embracing each and every one of them with love, acceptance and now empowerment. She has made some recent public statements as a believer in female empowerment as she moves forward with her modeling career with more of a focus on this specific meaningful purpose.

Although Adriana Lima walked in a segment just to honor her VS Angel retirement after two decades of dedicated ambassadorship, her final runway walk in a traditional segment is perhaps more noteworthy. Her hair in a new mid-length cut is quite flattering for this matured model. The Brazilian goddess wears a sexy, black lace teddy with crescent moon-shaped wings which seemed well matched to the music and the moment. We all love her spunky personality that always shines through especially when she is grooving to the beat on the runway.

2018 VSFS: Winnie Harlow (Floral Fantasy Segment)

I can only imagine how Winnie Harlow must have felt when she became a Victoria's Secret model. She auditioned for the 2018 annual runway show and she was selected. She has stated that when she was first notified she was more than ecstatic ... in fact, she was quite emotional. To be a model with a rare skin condition is simply unheard of. Her vitiligo appears on her skin in such a beautiful way and then the confidence that she exudes is amazing. She is beautiful despite her abnormality and perhaps because of it.

She seemed to be having the time of her life at the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She is seen backstage chumming it up with Kris Jenner, the celebrity mother and successful business manager of the mega Kardashian/Jenner enterprise. The beautiful vitiligo-kissed Winnie Harlow sparkles backstage as well as on the runway.

For the Floral Fantasy Segment, Victoria's Secret collaborated with award-winning fashion designer Mary Katrantzou. She is known for combining with floral prints harmoniously with other prints. She seems to also consistently design with ultra-feminine flair. Winnie Harlow wears a beautiful floral ensemble with matching floral gloves and floral shoes. The floral lingerie underneath showcases a flirty bra with strappy bikini-like strings connecting this unitard together. This delicate detailing was almost hidden by the adorable peplum wrap skirt that she later removed for the finale.

She gleefully strutted down the runway while Shawn Mendes strummed his guitar and sang his popular ballad "Lost in Japan." Great upbeat and light-hearted runway vibes.

Interestingly enough, Canadian model Winnie Harlow is currently dating American rapper Wiz Khalifa who used to be married to Amber Rose. ROSE? Hmmm ... Floral Fantasy Segment ... isn't it ironic?! Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? Perhaps even sweeter! I am not fond of rapper/model hookups but I actually take delight in seeing Winnie with Wiz because facially they look very similar to one another. He escorted her to the Victoria's Secret after party where I am sure they had a blast!

"Any step towards a truly equal and diverse modeling industry is great, but for a huge brand like Victoria's Secret to include me as a model with vitiligo is a huge step to normalizing it in the entire industry."
